Understanding Respite Care
Respite care, provided by organizations like Care Remedy Inc., is a temporary or short-term home care service designed to give primary caregivers a much-needed break.
Whether it's for a few hours, overnight, or even longer, this flexible service can be scheduled according to your needs. Care Remedy Inc. ensures that even in your absence, your loved one receives the highest level of care and attention.
Benefits of Respite Care
Respite care in Massachusetts, booked by the day or the week
Family caregiving does not stop, so respite care has to be easy to book and easy to pay for. Care Remedy provides home health aides who come to your parent's home while you take a break, go to a wedding, catch up on sleep or go to your own medical appointment. We serve Greater Boston, the South Shore and Western Massachusetts.
How much does respite care cost?
$45 an hour for in-home respite with a trained Care Remedy aide, booked from 1 to 8 hours a day. Overnight respite is $540 for a 12 hour night. A 24 hour stay is $1,080. There is no minimum contract and no assessment fee. See the full price breakdown.
What does the aide do during a respite visit?
Bathing, dressing, toileting, meals, light housekeeping, companionship, errands, medication reminders and transfers. Our aides are trained, background checked and insured. They can also sit with your loved one in the hospital or at a rehab, so you can keep working or get a night of real sleep. More on what companion and personal care covers.
Can I use respite care for a weekend away?
Yes. Weekend respite is the most common booking we get. Call us a few days ahead so we can match an aide your loved one will be comfortable with. Same day is possible when staff is available.
Does MassHealth, Medicare or long term care insurance pay for respite?
Original Medicare does not cover in-home respite. MassHealth may cover respite through specific programs such as Adult Family Care, PCA or hospice. Most long term care insurance policies reimburse respite care; we give you an itemized invoice to submit. If your loved one has a PCA program through MassHealth, our PCM agency can help manage the hours.
What about overnight and 24 hour respite?
We cover full overnights with awake staff when the person wakes often, and asleep overnights when they sleep through. For 24 hour respite we rotate two aides so there is always someone awake. See 24 hour care details.
How do I know the aide actually showed up?
Every visit is logged in MyCase, our care coordination platform, so you can see when the aide arrived and left even if you are out of town.
How do we get started?
Call 781-957-8076. We can usually start with a single visit, and you can increase or stop hours as the need changes. Serving Greater Boston, the South Shore and Western Massachusetts.
