Hiring Someone to Pick Up Prescriptions and Groceries in MA

Care Remedy • November 7, 2026

Need help in Massachusetts? Care Remedy provides home health aides at $45 an hour, stair assistance at $200 a visit and wheelchair transportation from $115 each way. Call 781-957-8076 .

Yes. In Massachusetts you can pay a home care agency to pick up your parent's prescriptions, shop for groceries and bring everything inside. Care Remedy does this by phone, charges it to your account, and texts you when it's delivered. For controlled medicines, the person picking up shows their own photo ID at the pharmacy.

Can someone else pick up my parent's prescription?

Yes. A Massachusetts pharmacy may give a filled prescription to the patient or to someone picking it up for them. For controlled substances, the pharmacy records the ID number from the pickup person's government issued ID, as the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy has explained. It helps to have your parent tell the pharmacy once that Care Remedy will be picking up, and to keep their date of birth on file with us.

A pharmacist hands over a filled prescription at the counter. We bring it straight to your parent at home.

What does a paid delivery service do that an app doesn't?

  • Brings the order inside and hands prescriptions to your parent instead of leaving them at the door
  • Puts cold and frozen groceries away
  • Calls before swapping an item that's out of stock
  • Keeps the pharmacy, the usual store and diet notes on file, so a repeat order is one call
  • Lets a family member who lives far away place the order and pay for it

The groceries go in the refrigerator, not on the porch, and the prescription goes into your parent's hand.

Delivery apps are fine for someone who can get to the door and unpack. The difference matters when your parent uses a walker, can't lift bags, or forgets what's in the fridge.

How do I set it up?

Call 781-957-8076 with the list, the pharmacy or the meal order. We read it back, give you a delivery window and send a team member. You get a text when it's inside. You can also save a standing weekly list.

How much does it cost?

Errands are billed to your account, with the store or pharmacy receipt attached, so your parent never hands anyone a card or cash. Call us for current errand pricing. If your parent also needs meals cooked at home, a home health aide is $45 an hour.

Are the people who come to the house vetted?

Yes. Care Remedy team members are trained, background checked and insured employees, not gig drivers. They are not nurses and do not give medication. They deliver it and hand it to your parent.

Is there a free option to try first?

Often, yes. Adults 60 and older who are homebound can get free home delivered meals through the state's Senior Nutrition Program. Call MassOptions at 1-800-243-4636. Many Councils on Aging also run volunteer shopping programs. A paid service makes sense when those have a waitlist, don't bring things inside, or can't do a same day prescription.

Can a pickup be added to a ride?

Yes. If your parent rides with us to an appointment, we can stop at the pharmacy on the way home. See Ride Plans for weekly schedules.

See everything included on our groceries, meals and prescriptions page. To book an errand, call Care Remedy at 781-957-8076. We serve Massachusetts from offices in Woburn, Brockton and Springfield.
