Why Antique Staircases Are Different

How We Approach the Transfer

We bring a stair chair, the same class of equipment fire and EMS crews carry, and two trained staff. The rider is seated and secured with chest and leg straps, one staff member works above and one below, and the chair takes the weight on each tread. At a winder we stop, reposition, and continue rather than trying to swing the chair through the turn.

Then the Ride

Emerson Hospital is the local anchor, with Lahey in Burlington, Newton-Wellesley, Mount Auburn and the Boston teaching hospitals making up the longer runs. Our vehicles use ramps or hydraulic lifts with floor anchors and four-point securement, so the rider stays in their own wheelchair.

Long Driveways and Rural Approaches
