Wheelchair accessible transportation

Ramp equipped vans with proper securement for manual chairs, power chairs, and scooters. Appointments, dialysis, hospital and rehab discharge, family visits, worship, and airport trips. Family members and caregivers ride along at no extra charge.

Transportation to medical procedures

Colonoscopies, cataract surgery, infusions, and anything requiring sedation. Facilities will not discharge you after sedation without a responsible adult. Your driver waits or returns on schedule and assists you to and from the door.

PCA services and home care

Care Remedy holds a MassHealth Personal Care Management contract, so we can help Brockton residents navigate the PCA program as well as provide private duty care. Personal care, bathing and dressing support, companion and respite care, and skilled nursing at home.

The gap most Brockton families run into

Dial-A-BAT is a genuinely useful service and it is currently fare free. But two limits catch people out.

Boston hospital trips run on Wednesdays only. If your appointment at Dana-Farber, Mass General, Brigham and Women's, Beth Israel Deaconess, or Tufts falls on any other day, public paratransit cannot take you. That is the single most common reason Brockton families call us.

Everything must be booked by 4pm the day before. That rules out same day hospital discharge, a dialysis run that goes long, and any appointment that gets rescheduled at short notice. Dialysis shifts at the Brockton centers start as early as 6am and the last shift can end at 9:30pm, which sits awkwardly against paratransit hours.

Cancer care and infusion: the Greene Cancer Center on Libby Street, the BMC South Cancer Center on Oak Street, and Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center at South Shore Health in Weymouth.

Rehab and skilled nursing: Brockton Post Acute Care, The Guardian Center, Braemoor, Alliance Health at West Acres, St. Joseph Manor, and Heights Crossing.

Outside Brockton: South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, Morton Hospital in Taunton, and the Boston teaching hospitals about 25 miles north.

One note worth knowing: New England Sinai in Stoughton closed in 2024, as did Carney Hospital in Dorchester. If an older referral still points you there, call the referring office before you travel.

Questions Brockton families ask

My mother is on the third floor of a three family with no elevator. Can you still take her?

Yes. Roughly a quarter of Brockton's housing is in two to four unit buildings, most with exterior porch stairs and no lift, so this is one of our most common requests. Stair assistance is a separate service from a standard wheelchair van and usually means a second crew member. Tell us the number of steps, whether there is a railing, and roughly your parent's weight when you book.

I need to get to Boston for treatment on a Tuesday. Can you do that?

Yes. Any day of the week. Boston runs are about 25 miles each way, so allow for traffic, and book recurring treatment like infusion or radiation as far ahead as you can.

My dialysis shift starts at 6am. Do you run that early?

Yes. Early morning and late evening dialysis runs are routine for us. Tell us your schedule when you book and we will set up the standing trip.

Mum is being discharged tomorrow and I only found out today. Can you help?

Call us. Short notice is harder and we will be honest about whether we can cover it, but discharge rides are exactly the situation advance-booking-only services cannot handle.

Do your staff speak anything other than English?

Nearly half of Brockton speaks a language other than English at home, and we do our best to match staff accordingly. Tell us what you need when you call and we will tell you honestly what we can arrange.

I have MassHealth. Is any of this covered?

It depends on the service and your plan. We hold a MassHealth Personal Care Management contract and can walk you through what the PCA program covers and what would be private pay. Ask before you assume you cannot afford it.

Local resources worth knowing

The Mary Cruise Kennedy Senior Center on Father Kenney Way is the Brockton Council on Aging, and it handles SHINE insurance counseling, fuel assistance, and Meals on Wheels coordination. Old Colony Elder Services on Main Street is the regional aging services agency and the starting point for state funded home care.
