Why the Stairs Decide Everything

Once a flight becomes impassable, the pattern is always the same. The person moves to a downstairs room. Then they stop going out for anything optional. Then the medical appointments start slipping, because each one requires a plan and the plan keeps failing at the front steps.

How the Transfer Is Done

We use a stair chair, the same class of equipment fire and EMS crews carry, operated by two trained staff. The rider is secured with chest and leg straps, and the chair takes the weight on each tread while one staff member works above and one below. Turns are handled by stopping at the landing and repositioning.

The Ride, Village to Hospital
